CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


Our classes are generally small ( between 6 and 10 students each, 15 maximum). Each student receives a great deal of personal attention in a caring and nurturing emvironment.

Preballet
(5-6 yrs)
Saturday; 10:00am - 11:00am

 

This is a fun class designed both to introduce children to the joy of dance and to hone memory, listening and attention skills. Exercises focus on balance, coordination, stretching, musicality and creativity.

BALLET 1

(6-8 yrs)

Saturday; 10:00am - 11:00am

 

Students at this level will be introduced to the basic ballet positions of the arms and legs and will begin to learn basic barre exercises including plie, releve, tendu & piques. In the center, students will begin to learn basic locomotor movements including skips, chasses, galops and glissades.

 BALLET 2 - 3

 

(9 - 11 yrs)

Wednesday; 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Saturday; 11:00am - 12:00pm

Students at this level understand the basic principles of ballet technique and have good knowledge of ballet vocabulary. This class emphasizes core strength as it applies to the learning of pirouettes, big jumps, and complicated combinations of ballet steps and phrasing.

 BALLET 4

 

(12 + yrs)

Tuesday & Thursday - 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Wednesday - 5:00pm - 6:30pm

Saturday; 12:00 pm - 2:00pm

Sunday; 10:00am - 12:00pm

 

Ballet 4 students should take a minimum of 4 classes per week (Intermediate). Students will be required to take part or all of class en pointe.

 

All students will have the opportunity to perform with the Company as Company Apprentices and will be required to attend rehearsals. Ballet knowledge and skills are refined in this challelnging class as strength flexibility, speed, agility & performing skills are honed.

VIDEO STYLE HIP HOP

Monday; 4:30 - 6:30

 

Learn a new routine each class that incorporate W. African Dance, R&B, Salsa, Merengue, Ballet, Modern and more improving both mental and muscular memory and blast preparing participants to enter a professional atmosphere requiring, persistence, quick memory retention both mentally and physically calling for lucidity of mind and movement and also for those craving a focused but fun work out!  Hr 1, cardio Hr 2 slow it down to R&B rhythms.

OPEN BALLET

 

Sunday; 10:00am - 12:00pm

Plus all other classes

Students work alongside Boston Dance Company members in this open company class. Classes are thorough and challenging and require much discipline. These classes push the dancers to their fullest potential. Great strength and stamina are built through intricate musicality. Both classical and contemporary ballet vocabulary are utilized.

DANCE FUSION

Wednesday; 6:30pm - 8:00pm 

Mixture of techniques and rhythms, with a warm up in contemporary-modern, phrases in Jazz, hip-hop, basic salsa, Latin ballroom, burlesque, cabaret, and dance theatre; and a lot of fun!!

This class can be taken with or without a partner. Dance Fusion is perfect for learning new dance moves. If you don’t dance, you will in just a couple of sessions. If you already know how to dance, you will leave the class with a new blend of composition and choreography that you created.
